Introduction

Asilo de Sao Francis Xavier Home for the Aged was founded in 1965. It used to be a foundling hospital which was established in 1907 by Canossian Daughters of Charity. The hospital mainly adopted abandoned children at that time. In order to take care of the nuns’ twilight years, it then started to provide elderly services. The place was insufficient for the new move-in elderly to live, so the government has subsidized the reconstruction of the home for the elderly.

The elderly home was transferred to Caritas de Macau since 1988 and is responsible for the administration and finances. There is a daycare center that organizes educational and recreational activities for the elderly to enrich their leisure time. Moreover, a physiotherapy exercise room is set up to design fitness exercises for the healthy elderly, and arrange rehabilitation exercises according to the health conditions of the elderly, these activities can enhance their physical function and health.

Objective

The Center provides accommodation and meals for the female elderly, limited health-caring services, daily-caring services, and rehabilitative treatments which lead them to a safe and comfortable home-life. Through counseling, group activities, social and recreational activities, they can fulfill and develop their potentials, meanwhile, reintegrate into the group-life and the society.
